Summer 2023 Community Outreach

Ventura County VOAD participated in two different community outreach events to increase the public’s awareness and preparedness for disasters during July and August of 2023.

The first community event was hosted by one of VC VOAD’s Executive Committee members to celebrate their 50th birthday in serving the county. The event included a band, jumping castles for kids, and food trucks.

The second summer event was during the Ventura County Fair during August. Ventura County VOAD and its member organizations hosted a disaster preparedness educational booth during the fair’s Fire Preparedness Special Event Day.

Insights:

Some insights acquired during the Ventura County Fair are compared with the 50th Birthday Community Celebration held in July 2023. The three questions tested during the 50th birthday celebration were as follows: 

  1. Do you have an emergency “go” bag?

  2. What are the top three things you have in an emergency “go” bag? 

  3. Have you heard of Ventura County VOAD before today?
